Creation Lab
MAK is a place abounding in creativity! We have two places where students can experience learning in a hands-on way. In the Creation Lab, students use tools such as 3D printers, woodworking tools, Raspberry Pi, and a laser cutter to build models and projects. In the Media Lab, students use cameras, microphones, and editing software such as Premiere Pro and After Effects to create films, songs, and podcasts.
Courses are offered to middle and high school students on laser cutting, 3D printing, electronics, screen printing, robotics, film making, and audio recording. Teachers capitalize on these skills to engage students with dynamic projects. Science classes have created Maglev-style elevated train models. English classes designed laser cut pins with creative symbols that represent a utopian society. Films are shot, edited, and submitted to international film competition. Electronics are programmed to automatically monitor soil dryness and water gardens.
Students are connecting knowledge across subject areas to solve problems. Teachers are encouraging the Design Process by allowing students to plan, build, fail, and rethink their projects. Student-driven clubs explore robotics and film.
Designing, creating, and experimenting are a critical part of MAK’s learning experience! Please drop by the Media Lab or Creation Lab to see these educational experiences in progress!
