Giving Project Update
It was great to have the founder and director of Taiwan Sunshine, Mr. Uwe Maurer, on campus last week.  All of the students had a chance to hear him talk about the work being done by Taiwan Sunshine.  We have raised over 87,000NT towards a truck.  Our elementary students are working on raising funds through doing chores and hosting a walk-a-thon.  The walk-a-thon mirrors the walk around Taiwan that Mr. Maurer is doing this month.  Our middle school students are preparing for a CSL Hero Games at RenWu special needs school in March.  Mr. Maurer will return at that time to help the middle school run the activity.  Our high school students are planning camps and selling breakfast foods to raise funds.  I am excited to see all of our students involved in this project in some way. MAK OLYMPIC DAY – Tomorrow, Friday, January 22, 2021
2021年 MAK 奧林匹克運動會，就在明天！一月22日(五)

MAK Olympic Day will be held tomorrow, Friday, January 22 starting at 8am.
There will be no regular classes that day for Elementary or Middle School students.
Students who are on the lunch plan will still receive a school lunch. Food and drinks will be sold at the event!
All MAK parents are invited to attend this fun day of celebrating fitness, teamwork, and healthy competition!
Parents, please also remember to contact the bus company or sign the Bus Sign Out Form at the front office if your child will not be riding the school bus home that afternoon.

*In the event that it is too rainy or a high pollution day on Olympic Day then students will transition to a regular school schedule.

當日中小學部不會進行平日的課程。
有訂購午餐者，學校將會正常供餐。除此之外，在當日學校亦會提供餐飲販售服務！

As a school, we take bullying seriously and follow specific procedures to ensure that reports of bullying are taken seriously.  It is important to make sure all of us are talking about the same thing when we are talking about bullying.  There is a difference between children being rude, mean, and bullying.  Research tells us that bullying includes three components, intentionality, repetition, and a power imbalance.  You can read more about these ideas in this excellent article. Often what we see and what is reported home is rude behavior that is unkind but accidental or mean behavior that is unkind and purposeful but perhaps not repeated or containing a power imbalance.  Power imbalance happens when there is an age difference, size difference, or a group versus an individual.  At MAK, we are constantly teaching children kindness and respect.  We also investigate all reports of bullying and after evaluating those issues deal with them appropriately.  We hope this information and checklist are helpful to you.

我們學校是非常認真的看待霸凌這件事，並會遵循特定的程序以確保大家會認真看待霸凌的問題。但是我們必須確認大家對霸凌的認知是相同的，因為沒禮貌、刻薄，和霸凌之間是有明顯的不同。研究顯示，霸凌通常是由三個部分組成的：意圖性、重複性，和權力的失衡。這篇文章裡面有詳細的說明。通常家長們聽到的“霸凌”事件都是沒禮貌，但不是故意的行為或刻薄、故意，也不是長期性也沒有造成權力的失衡的事件。權力的失衡通常會因為雙方有明顯的年齡差距、體型的不同，或人數的不同（群體vs.個人）而產生。在馬禮遜，我們時常教導孩子們良善和尊重等重要的特質。我們也會認真地調查任何有可能的霸凌事件，以及在深思熟慮之後做出最適合的處置。我們希望這些資訊對您來說是有幫助的。

Dear MAK Families,

We’d like to let you know that we are hosting a Volleyball Camp over this year’s CNY break!! 

This camp will not only be beneficial to your volleyball skills and technique, but hopefully you’ll also have a lot of fun during these three days :)) This camp will primarily be focused on strengthening your basic foundation and techniques. Ultimately, we hope that this camp will boost your confidence as a player. The student coaches, Annette Huang (12) and Koki Shibata(12), will also be sharing some advice and tips to help you navigate the court better as well. And if you’re wondering, snacks will be provided :)) 

If you participated in our winter volleyball camp, you may have noticed that the registration fee has increased. This is because we have decided to donate all of our profit towards MAK’s Giving Project AND to provide more snacks/drinks for all of you. This year, MAK is partnering with Taiwan Sunshine, a nonprofit organization working to help children with disabilities. All donations will go towards Taiwan Sunshine’s new project to provide a space for children with disabilities to work for themselves and to sell their produce. 

As we get closer to the start of camp, we’ll send out another email with more information about the schedule and what you’ll need for this camp.

謹此通知您，我們將在今年的春節期間舉辦排球營！！

這個訓練營不僅將提升您的排球技巧和技術，也希望能讓您在這三天中和朋友共度愉快的時光。我們最主要希望能藉由這個營隊來增強您的基本基礎和技術。最終的目的是，我們希望這個營隊將提高您身為球員的信心。學生教練 Annette Huang (12)，Koki Shibata (12)，和 Kristen Tam (12)，也將分享一些建議和技巧，以幫助您更好地進行比賽。我們也會提供運動飲料和一些小點心。

如果您之前參加我們的冬令排球營，您可能已經注意到我們提高收費了。這是因為我們決定將全部盈餘捐贈給MAK的募捐計畫，並為所有人提供更多的點心和飲料。今年，MAK與恩美協會合作，一個幫助身障兒童的機構。所有盈餘將捐予恩美計畫的新項目，為身障兒童提供了一個為自己工作和出售產品的空間。

Dear Parents,

We’d like to kindly remind you that the annual Talent Show, “Turn of the Tide”, will happen on February 27th from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm at MAK. Prices for admission are as follows: 

Before 2/5: 300 NT per person
Before 2/19: 400 NT per person

Ticket slips have been handed out to all students and are also available to print here. 

The audition deadline has been pushed back until January 29th, please remember to submit your audition videos to makhouseco@ma.org.tw before January 29 (Sunday) at midnight. The auditions should be less than 5 minutes total. We look forward to reviewing your submissions! 

For the show, we will be following a series of precautions for Covid-19. If you would like to understand how we will be applying these precautions, feel free to check this document out.

提醒您試鏡影片繳交截止日改為 一月29日，有意願者請拍攝您整段表演的影片(五分鐘以內)，並且在一月29日午夜前將影片寄到 makhouseco@ma.org.tw 。期待看到大家的試鏡影片！
