Dear HS Parents & Students,

Thank you for all the kindness and generosity that you have already shown in our Giving Project! Just a reminder that the deadline for donations is this Friday, December 9th.

Some of the HS Club Members (Social Justice, Odd Jobs, Servy Servy, Red Cross, Art Club) have also expressed interest in doing more for the seniors. There will be various opportunities for furniture assembly and gift delivery (during finals week). It’s truly a blessing to see how the MAK Family can be a blessing to our community!

Praying that you can all experience the love and great joy of Christ in this Christmas season. Merry Christmas!

HS Sports Recap

Varsity Boys 48-82 11/30 vs KAS @ KAS

Last week the Varsity Boys faced a tough road test against a strong KAS Dragons team. At times we played them tough and the competitiveness of the game promised tighter battles to come. But on this day, KAS’s speed and experience proved too much to overcome in a 48-82 defeat. Your Sharks had three players in double figures with James Lei leading the scoring with 13 points. We live to fight another day!

JV Girls Sharks 16 – Dragons 41 11/30 @ KAS

The JV Girls started off the season with a challenging matchup against the KAS Varsity team. Despite playing some good defense, the Sharks were no match for the experience and skill of a varsity team. Sophie (9) had 5 points, Claire (11) had 4 points, Phoebe (8) scored 4, and Irene (10) scored 3 points to make up the Sharks scoring. The JV Girls look to bounce back next Tuesday (Dec. 6th) against the I-Shou Hawks JV team.

Varsity Boys 72-38 12/2 vs I-Shou College Nursing Club @ MAK

Last Friday, bouncing back from a tough road loss, your Varsity Boys enjoyed the warm embrace of the Shark Tank. Despite the evening start, the Tank was alive with the sound of screaming fans. Our home fans have been a HUGE boost to the Sharks this year! Way to go, Shark Nation! The energy level our boys started high and carried through to the end against a big, skilled and older college club team. 9 Sharks scored with Captain Joseph Tsai leading all scorers with 25 points. Way to go, Sharks!

Varsity Boys 48-58 12/6 vs IIS @ IIS

Even the best teams in the best seasons have some rough outings. Yesterday’s defeat at the hands of the IIS Hawks was a bitter pill to swallow for a Varsity Boys team that has higher expectations of itself. All credit to the Hawks for their spirited play and their disciplined adjustments. The Sharks will absorb this moment, learn from it, and move on. Every sports season is a mountain to climb with peaks and valleys, not a sprint to the end. James Lei’s aggressive defense leading to fast break offense was a bright spot as he led the scoring with 16 points. Let’s go, Sharks; you got this!

JV Girls Sharks 45 – Hawks 6 12/6 @ IIS

The JV Girls claimed their first victory of the season against the I-Shou Hawks, 45-6. With several veteran players out with injury, the young Sharks came storming out of the gates with an aggressive defense that generated steals and easy points in transition. The Sharks defense held the Hawks to only 2 points in the first half and stymied their progress in the 2nd half as well. Phoebe (8) led all scorers with 19 points; Audrey (9) scored 12 points; Sophie Tsai (9) added 10 points of her own. The JV Girls look to continue their winning ways on Saturday at the exchange against MAC and ICA.

On Friday, December 16, the elementary students will be participating in a special Christmas-themed library reading activity. Elementary students have the option of wearing their pajamas to school for the half-day and bringing an appropriately sized stuffed animal to school if they would like. Stuffed animals should be able to easily fit into their backpacks. Due to space constraints, only students and teachers are able to join in this activity at this time. Please see the flyer below for more information!

On December 9th, MAK’s Social Justice Club will be hosting a screening of the Dressember Documentary. We encourage everyone to wear either a dress or a tie that day to raise awareness for human trafficking. While it is just one day, we hope that this can raise awareness within the MAK community.

Who: MAK Social Justice Club, High Schoolers, Middle Schoolers, teachers, and anyone else who are interested!
What: Dressember Day + Documentary Watch Party (There will be SNACKS!)
When: Friday, December 9th
Where: Garden Conference Room

Dressember is a social justice movement that has started quite recently. A woman named Blythe Hill challenged herself to wear a dress all month to raise money and awareness in 2009 and now it has turned into a worldwide challenge that has raised over $10 million. Dressember partners with organizations that are on the ground doing the work in different types of human trafficking.

Dressember is usually done over the course of the entire month of December, and the Social Justice Club wants to invite everyone to challenge themselves to either wear a dress or a tie for (at least!) one day. If you feel like this is something you are passionate about, continue for the rest of December!
