MAK DADS!

Mothers at Morrison Academy have many wonderful opportunities to get together throughout the school year. This past year, I was longing for the same for the fathers even with the understanding that many of the fathers are busy with work. I wanted to try to create a space for fathers to connect, to talk about their children, and pray for the Morrison community. Dads in Prayer provides opportunities, support, and resources for fathers to develop a heart of prayer for their children and families. It helps those fathers want to pray for their children but may not have much time or may not know how to. If you are a father with a heart for your children and would like to be part of Dads in Prayer at Morrison Academy, please join! We are having our first Dads in Prayer today in the HS Meeting Room. If you are interested, please email Simon Hsu at makdip2023@gmail.com with your name so that you can be included on our Dads in Prayer LINE group. Please come join us!

Dear MAK Parents, Students, and Staff,

The FBLA Club is finally bringing back Varsity Jackets for the third time! These jackets allow you to customize your names on the back, an embroidered shark, and space for whatever pins you want on it! When you place your order, you will be asked what you want on the back of your shirt, and it can be however you wish to spell your name (see examples in the pictures) + written in Chinese if you want. If you missed out on ordering our MAK themed jackets, just follow these steps to pre-order your own.

• Go to the front office to place your order with Ms. Joyce Lee
• Pay upfront (1300 NT), cash only
• Place your order before the due date of September 6th, Wednesday.

Please get your order in on time as we are not accepting any orders beyond that date; and if you’re a new student or staff member, we encourage you to get one and join the Morrison community! Act fast as this may be our last time creating the varsity jackets! Thank you so much for supporting FBLA and we hope you enjoy your jackets!

Dear Parents, We are so excited for another year of school and all the learning, growth, and fun that will take place in ES Chapel this year! This year, our ES Chapel theme is “Who is God?”. Each week, we’ll be looking at a different attribute, characteristic, or name of God and learning about who He is as revealed in the Bible. We’d love for you to join us as we sing, learn, and grow together in Chapel! 

As usual, ES Chapel will be every Friday from 8:00am-8:40am, and is now in the newly renovated CPA! If you are interested in joining us, please do the following when you come to the school:

1) Park along Jiacheng road

2) Sign in at the office as a guest/visitor

3) Walk over to the Covered Play Area (CPA) and take a seat on the chairs at the back of the room

Parents:

On September 8th at 2pm in the Band room, I will be presenting on the components of a university application.  We will look at all the different parts that go into a university application and how students can prepare themselves.  These elements include transcript, activities, recommendation letters, personal essays, standardized testing and more.  This presentation will be an overview of the entire application and will give you a good understanding of what your student needs to prepare for during high school.

Parents:  There are two exciting opportunities coming up to learn more about universities all over the world.  

The Counselor Association of Taiwan (CAT) will be hosting a university fair at Taipei American School on Sept 10 from 10:00-13:00.  (The TAS fair is only open to current G11 and G12 students) This is a very large fair with over 120 universities from all over the USA.  There will be a ticketing system for interested students and one parent to accompany them. CAT anticipates 1200 students attending the fair.   More information about how to reserve your tickets will be coming soon. Here is the current university list.

Dear Parents,

I just wanted to remind you that the MAK library is a resource for you, too! As a parent, you may register for a library account, which allows you to check out books. Don’t have a library account yet? Feel free to come to the library to register.

The library is open to parents during ASA (Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:15 – 4:30) and by appointment. If you’d like to come to the library outside ASA time, please send me an email (kate.shaffner@ma.org.tw) to arrange a time. 

If you have a library account, you can search for books without even coming to the library! Click here to browse and search for books. 

We have thousands of books for K-12 students (picture books, novels, etc.), but we also have a small collection of parenting books in English and Chinese. 

You can even look at our curated lists. Feel free to request a list if you need recommendations!

If you don’t have time to come to the library but you want to borrow books, you can reserve books online by putting them on “hold.” 

Here’s how:

1) Click “Login”

2) Login with your username and password. If you’ve forgotten what they are, send me an email!

3) Find a book you want to read. Click “hold.”

We will be notified of your reservation. We will then find the book and send it home with your child.

Madeline Yu (G10) competed in Brisbane, Australia last week in the Pacific Cup, an international skating competition and won first place for Youth Ladies Inline Skating!

Mathew G4 won second place in drums at the Kaohsiung music competition. Great job!
