August 13, 2020
Dear students and parents,
“What did you do this summer?” I imagine that our stories are quite a bit different than other summers. Instead of airplane trips, visits with friends and family around the world, and summer courses and camps on college campuses, most of us spent the summer becoming reacquainted with Taiwan summers. My summer was filled with Taiwan waterfalls, beaches, hikes, heat, and, of course, grandkids.
We are about to embark on another school year. I don’t know about you but I am hoping for less excitement in 20-21 than we had in 19-20. Last school year, we weathered an epidemic and a pandemic. This coming year, we are all hoping for the continued decline of Covid19. All of us hope to wear less masks and experience more hugs. We continue to hope for healthy and happy families and children. We even dare to hope for international travel!
As we think about the future, hope is mentioned over and over again. It seems appropriate to choose “Hope” as our theme for the year. All of us have hopes, some small and some huge. We may hope mangos continue to be available in the markets for many months. We might hope our children succeed in school. We might hope for a change in our job situation or the opportunity to buy a new home. The fulfillment of these hopes depends on a variety of factors. Some depend on us while others depend on factors out of our control like the weather or an upturn of the country’s economy.
As Christians, we realize that all our important hopes are spiritual and are grounded in our faith in God. Our hope is like a tree, firmly planted in God by streams of water, yielding fruit in season and prospering (Psalms 1:3). Romans 15:13 records this prayer, “I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.” My hope for the upcoming year is new friendships, many memories, lots of learning, and strengthened relationships with God. Welcome to another school year!
Thanks,
Julie Heinsman

Reminder from the Health Clinic!
During the COVID-19 period, if students are sick and take leave, or have fever, diarrhea, sore throat, cough, runny nose, smell and taste abnormalities, it is best to seek medical treatment, and parents are requested to inform the health clinic (liui@ma.org.tw)and inform the situation so that the Health Clinic implements infection control.
Taiwan now has epidemics of Dengue fever, Japanese encephalitis and Scrub typhus. After the rain, mosquitoes are easy to grow. The school will keep the environment clean and tidy. At the same time, parents are also asked to help their children take anti-mosquito measures to reduce the chance of being bitten by mosquitoes.
If your child needs to take medicine during school, please give it to the office staff or school nurse. Do not let your child take the medicine by himself without supervision. We sincerely recommend that you try to let your children take medicine at home, and only let them bring medicine to school when necessary. If your child needs to take medicine, please send the following information and the Morrison Medication Administration From to the office staff or school nurse. We will give the child medicine according to the doctor’s order. Please also attach the doctor’s prescription and the medicine. Put it in the medicine bag and clearly indicate the child’s name (grade), the dose of medicine and the time of taking the medicine.
Please remember if your child is a new student you need to turn in his/her health record form, complete with vaccine history and physical by Friday, August 28th!
If you have misplaced that form, click this link for a digital copy for you to print.
(liui@ma.org.tw)

School ends at 3:15pm each day. In order to keep students safe, students who stay after school are expected to be in school-sponsored activities such as ASA, clubs, or sports or in certain areas (i.e. library, MPR, outdoors). Please note that there is no teacher supervision for students not participating in school events, so students who remain at school do so at their own risk. Students who are not following school rules may lose their privilege of staying on campus after school. At 5:30pm, all students must leave campus. After such time, students who are still on campus will be asked to wait outside the school gates.
